Pattern hair loss happens when follicles become sensitive to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and gradually shrink. Finasteride lowers DHT by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone into it. With less DHT reaching the scalp, follicles can stop miniaturizing and, over time, produce thicker hair again.
Core Tab is finasteride 1 mg, an FDA-approved prescription treatment for male pattern hair loss in men, taken once daily.
One tablet (1 mg) by mouth once daily, with or without food, at roughly the same time each day. There is no titration — the dose is the same from day one. Benefit generally requires at least three to six months of continued treatment to start noticing a difference, and the effect is maintained only with continued use.
Core Tab is for adult men with male pattern hair loss — thinning at the crown or a receding hairline. Postmenopausal women may be offered finasteride at their provider's discretion. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy are not eligible, and women of childbearing potential should not take or handle finasteride.
Scarring alopecia, alopecia areata, frontal fibrosing alopecia, and hair loss from an active scalp infection need in-person evaluation. If your intake suggests one of these, your provider will let you know and you won't be charged.

Months 1–3. DHT drops within days, but hair changes lag behind. Shedding should slow; some people notice a brief increase in shedding early on, which is temporary.
Months 3–6. Most people start to see early changes — less hair in the drain and brush, and thicker-looking areas where thinning was recent.
Months 6–12. Continued improvement through month 12 with consistent daily use. Results depend on continued use; if you stop, hair loss gradually returns to where it would have been.

Most people see early changes in 3–6 months of consistent daily use, with continued improvement through 12 months. Finasteride works by keeping follicles active, so results depend on continued use — if you stop, hair loss gradually returns to where it would have been.
In clinical studies, a small percentage of men (under 4%) reported sexual side effects such as decreased libido or erectile dysfunction, most of which resolved. Less common effects include breast tenderness, mood changes, and depression; the FDA has also issued warnings about mood-related effects. Finasteride can cause birth defects and must not be handled by women who are or may become pregnant. Your provider will review your history before prescribing.
Yes. Finasteride 1 mg tablets are FDA-approved for male pattern hair loss in men. Core Tab is prescribed only after a licensed U.S. provider reviews your online assessment and determines it is appropriate for you.
It can. Some people notice a brief increase in shedding in the first weeks as resting hairs are pushed out ahead of new growth. It is temporary and a normal part of treatment. Contact your provider if shedding is severe or continues past three months.
No labs are required. You complete an online assessment, upload a photo ID, and a licensed U.S. provider reviews it. Follow-ups are included, and your provider can adjust your plan at any time.
Oral finasteride is reserved for postmenopausal women, at the provider's discretion. Women of any age can start with Sensitive Spray, our finasteride-free option. Treatment is not available if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
Hair thinning was reported in the Wegovy® trials (about 3% vs 1% on placebo) and the Zepbound® trials (4–5% vs 1%), more often in women. It's generally linked to rapid weight loss rather than the drug itself, usually starts a few months into treatment and often improves as weight stabilizes. Minoxidil-based treatments can speed recovery, and a finasteride-free spray is appropriate for women of any age.
If a GobyMeds provider decides a prescription isn't appropriate for you, you receive a 100% refund of the medication price (lab fees, where they apply, are not refunded). Once your order has been sent to our medical partners or to the pharmacy for fulfillment we will do our best to accommodate changes or cancellations, but we can't guarantee them, and in some cases an adjustment or cancellation carries a $50 medical consultation fee.
Because of regulations covering prescription medication, we are unable to accept returned medication for a refund.
No insurance is needed and GobyMeds does not bill insurance. The price you see is the price you pay, with provider consultation and shipping included and no membership fee.
HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we can provide a letter of medical necessity if your plan administrator asks for one.
