Pattern hair loss has a cause, and the right treatment targets it: finasteride to lower DHT, minoxidil to restart growth, and supporting ingredients that help absorption and calm the scalp. Oral tablets, a dissolvable strip and topical sprays for men and women — including a finasteride-free option — prescribed online by licensed U.S. providers with no labs required.

Every formulation we prescribe is built from a short list of active ingredients, each with a different job. Your provider chooses the combination based on your pattern of hair loss, your health history and — for women — whether finasteride is an appropriate option.
Finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT, the hormone that shrinks follicles in pattern hair loss. Oral finasteride 1 mg (Core Tab) is FDA-approved for men and is the foundation of most plans; the Daily Strip and our topical sprays use compounded finasteride, which is prescribed off-label. Topical finasteride acts on the scalp with far less reaching the bloodstream.
Minoxidil lengthens the growing phase and improves blood flow to the follicle. Topical minoxidil 2% and 5% are FDA-approved for men and women; the 7% sprays and the dissolvable strip use compounded minoxidil.
Tretinoin helps minoxidil penetrate the skin. Fluocinolone manages inflammation and irritation. Ketoconazole (Scalp+ Spray) controls flaking and dandruff so the scalp is a better place to grow hair.
Biotin (vitamin B7) supports normal hair health. Latanoprost, melatonin and the copper peptide GHK-Cu are included for their potential effects on the hair-growth cycle; the research on them is promising but still emerging.
Orals are the simplest routine and treat the whole scalp; topicals put the ingredients where thinning is and keep systemic exposure low, which is why they're the route for women of childbearing age. Many men combine Core Tab with a spray.
Male pattern hair loss, usually DHT-driven and the most-studied form. Core Tab, Daily Strip or a topical spray.
Female pattern hair loss affects roughly 40% of women by 50. Sensitive Spray (finasteride-free) for women of any age; more options after menopause.
Often telogen effluvium — many hairs entering the resting phase at once — and sometimes unmasked pattern loss. Your provider reviews both prescriptions together; you don't need to stop your GLP-1.
More than half of postmenopausal women show pattern thinning as estrogen falls. Finasteride-containing options become available after menopause at your provider's discretion.
Usually settles on its own within a year. If thinning persists after you've finished breastfeeding, a provider can review your options.
Women of any age can start with Sensitive Spray. Sprays containing finasteride are available with a pregnancy-risk consent during intake. Oral options (Core Tab, Daily Strip) are reserved for postmenopausal women. Nothing here is prescribed to anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.
Hair loss is more common with GLP-1 medication than is often mentioned: in clinical trials, 3% of adults on Wegovy® and 4–5% on Zepbound® reported hair loss, compared with 1% on placebo. It's usually rapid weight loss pushing hairs into their resting phase at once; shedding starts two to four months in and often stabilizes as weight does, though for some it reveals underlying pattern loss. Prescription treatment can help without stopping your GLP-1, and GobyMeds providers see both prescriptions side by side.
Sudden patchy loss, scarring, or loss with scalp pain, rash or broken hairs needs an in-person dermatologist. Your provider will tell you if that's the case.
How GobyMeds works
Four steps from your first question to medication at your door, with a licensed U.S. provider at every one.
Answer a few questions about your symptoms, goals and health history. No appointment, no waiting room.
A licensed U.S. provider reviews your visit — and your lab panel, where your treatment needs one — and recommends the right option.
If prescribed, you see the full price before anything ships. No membership fees, no hidden costs, nothing auto-renews.
Medication arrives at your door in as little as 2–3 days, with follow-ups and adjustments through your provider.
Month 1. Daily use starts. Most people notice nothing yet, and that's expected. Some notice mild scalp irritation or dryness from topical sprays; tell your provider if it doesn't settle.
Weeks 2–8. Minoxidil can push resting hairs out to make room for new growth, so shedding may briefly increase. It's temporary and usually a sign the follicles are cycling. Don't stop here.
Month 3. Hair fall in the shower and brush typically eases. Fine, short new hairs may appear at the hairline or part. Take your first progress photo in the same light as your day-one photo.
Months 4–5. Many people begin to notice less scalp showing through and a fuller feel at the crown or part. Finasteride's effect on DHT has been working in the background since week one.
Month 6. The first fair checkpoint. Clinical studies of finasteride and minoxidil generally show measurable improvement at six months; your provider checks in and adjusts if needed.
Months 6–12. Regrowth continues to thicken. Results depend on continued use — hair loss resumes if treatment stops. Your annual follow-up is included.
Core Tab (finasteride 1 mg) is $89 for 30 days or $129 for 90 days — about $43 a month and the lowest-cost prescription option we offer. Daily Strip is $179 for 30 days or $449 for 90 days (about $149 a month). Scalp+ Spray is $129 and Boost Spray $119 per 30-day bottle; Sensitive Spray and Max Spray are $199 per 60-day bottle (about $99 a month). Renew Spray pricing is announced at launch.
Every plan includes the online visit, provider follow-ups and shipping that arrives in as little as 3 days; no lab work is required. No insurance, no membership, no auto-renewal. If a provider decides treatment isn't appropriate, you're refunded in full.
Finasteride can cause reduced libido, erectile difficulty or lower ejaculate volume in a small percentage of men in trials, usually resolving when stopped; mood changes are rare but should be reported. Women who are or may become pregnant must not take or handle finasteride, which is why oral options are limited to postmenopausal women and topical finasteride requires a consent. Minoxidil commonly causes scalp irritation or dryness and a temporary increase in shedding when you start; wash your hands after applying so it doesn't reach other skin, and tell your provider about dizziness or a racing heart. Tretinoin can add dryness. None of these treatments is for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Compounded sprays and strips are prepared by licensed U.S. pharmacies and are not FDA-approved.

Most people notice less shedding by month three and early regrowth between months three and six, with continued thickening through the first year of consistent daily use. Six months is the first fair checkpoint, and photos taken in the same light every month are the best way to track progress. Results depend on continued use: if you stop, hair loss gradually returns.
It can. Minoxidil pushes resting hairs out to make room for new growth, so shedding may briefly increase around weeks two to eight. It's temporary and a normal sign the treatment is working. Contact your provider if shedding is severe or continues past month three.
No labs are required. You complete an online assessment, upload a photo ID and a few scalp photos, and a licensed U.S. provider reviews everything. Follow-ups are included, and your provider can switch you to a different formula if your scalp doesn't tolerate the first one.
Oral options (Core Tab, Daily Strip) are a once-daily tablet or strip and act throughout the body. Topical sprays are applied to the scalp, which limits how much medication enters the bloodstream, a common reason people choose them, but they require a daily application routine and can irritate sensitive skin. Many patients combine an oral and a topical; your provider will recommend a plan that matches your pattern of loss.
Hair thinning was reported in the Wegovy® trials (about 3% vs 1% on placebo) and the Zepbound® trials (4–5% vs 1%), more often in women. It's generally linked to rapid weight loss rather than the drug itself, usually starts a few months into treatment and often improves as weight stabilizes. Minoxidil-based treatments can speed recovery, and a finasteride-free spray is appropriate for women of any age.
Topical finasteride products are prescribed to women only after acknowledging pregnancy precautions. Finasteride can cause birth defects, so women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning a pregnancy or not using reliable contraception should not use or handle these sprays. Women of any age can start with Sensitive Spray, our finasteride-free formula.
Scarring alopecia, alopecia areata, frontal fibrosing alopecia and hair loss from an active scalp infection need in-person evaluation. If your photos or history suggest one of these, your provider will tell you, point you to the right kind of care, and you won't be charged.
Part dry or towel-dried hair and apply the prescribed number of sprays directly to the thinning areas of the scalp, spreading it gently with a fingertip. Wash your hands afterward, and let it dry completely before styling or lying down. One 30 mL bottle is a 30-day supply at the standard once-daily dose; a 60 mL bottle lasts 60 days.
If a GobyMeds provider decides a prescription isn't appropriate for you, you receive a 100% refund of the medication price (lab fees, where they apply, are not refunded). Once your order has been sent to our medical partners or to the pharmacy for fulfillment we will do our best to accommodate changes or cancellations, but we can't guarantee them, and in some cases an adjustment or cancellation carries a $50 medical consultation fee.
Because of regulations covering prescription medication, we are unable to accept returned medication for a refund.
No insurance is needed and GobyMeds does not bill insurance. The price you see is the price you pay, with provider consultation and shipping included and no membership fee.
HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we can provide a letter of medical necessity if your plan administrator asks for one.
You answer a short health questionnaire and upload a photo ID. A licensed U.S. provider reviews your history, confirms the treatment is appropriate, and writes the prescription. There is no video call to schedule unless your provider or your state requires one, and follow-up messaging with your care team is included with every plan.
If you're not a candidate, you'll be told why and refunded in full.
